The story of Andalora
Legend has it that during the Sack of Valmerula, a Saracen pirate, the treacherous Prince Al Kadir, fell in love with Andalora, a beautiful local maiden. Al Kadir kidnapped her and took her with him to his ship moored near Cape Mele, where he tied her to the mast.
In a desperate attempt to free her one night, Andalora’s young lover, Stefanello, reached the ship and untied her, but was discovered and wounded by a guard. To escape the Saracens, the beautiful, distraught Andalora threw herself into the sea with her beloved Stefanello where they both drowned.
Deeply moved by the young lovers’ passion and tragic death, Al Kadir decided to immortalise them by naming two villages after them, which still bear the names Andora and Stellanello.
